D7TV – Preparing for the next wave?

Natali Del Conte over at Techcrunch has an article about D7TV which is preparing for the inevitable mobile video wave to hit. Instead of adapting existing shows and movies, D7TV is creating its own content designed specifically for mobile devices and small screens.

The really neat part is that mobile video is on its way. The infrastructure is being built in 3G networks from all carriers and the content is beginning to be created by companies like D7TV.

There is much more at the link below.

Pocket PC Thoughts: Reviews Spb Mobile DVD

Windows Mobile Pocket PC Smartphone Spb Mobile DVD Jon Westfall over at Pocket PC Thoughts has a full review of the new Spb Mobile DVD software package.  Designed to convert your DVD videos to mobile-device sized screens, Spb has entered another new mobile software category.

If history is any indication, this should be another great software product from Spb Software House.  While I currently don’t have any Spb software on my MDA, this may be on my Christmas wish list.

Apple Revises Patent for Combo Phone/iPod

Apple is attempting to update an existing patent to include features that are supposedly included in the rumored “iPhone” that Apple has been allegedly been working on for some time.

In a patent application, made public today, Apple claims it developed a new casing for a wireless device that can operate as an iPod and a mobile phone. The application was filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in August, and is related to an application filed in July 2004.

CoolSmartPhone.com – DVD to Pocket PC – New faster version available

Makayama Interactive DVD to Pocket PC I’d been meaning to get around to testing one of these packages out. Now that large memory cards are plentiful & cheap – this could be a viable method of taking video with you on a trip.

To date, we’ve usually just brought DVDs with and our trusty little mobile DVD player. Where I think this would work really well is on a UMPC. With a 7″ screen, these movies would be more entertaining than a 2.5″ to 4″ screen.

Will YouTube go mobile in 2007?

YouTube Mobile video will probably get a boost next year as YouTube push into the mobile space.  The problem of mobile video in my opinion is both the lack of content and the inconsistency of media players.

With a content-packed site like YouTube, that part of the equation is filled.  The hard part will be a consistent player, unless they make sure to support all the players that are out there on mobile devices.

Of course, I left out the really hard part of mobile media.  Bandwidth.  All the streaming formats and the tools to support them are readily available, but its hard to leverage any of it when your bandwidth ranges from 20k to 400k.

Still, its an exciting prospect for all mobile users.
