I’ve just recently been picking up news of a recently released Windows Mobile device running WM6, with a 624MHz processor and 1GB of ROM. For a decent price: $400(US)! Check out the review at Cellubration of the MWg Atom Life Windows Mobile 6 Phone.
Here are a rundown of the specs.
Granted, there are a few things missing – the 850MHz band for US AT&T, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR would be nice, 128MB RAM would also be appreciated, and at least for me, 1700MHz support for the upcoming T-Mobile USA 3G launch sometime in the next decade.
Even so, the $400 price tag, 1GB of ROM storage, FM radio and the minimal software load (Mostly just WM6 Pro), clean lines, and light weight is kinda killer. Of course, I’ve been spending the last two years with an HTC Wizard, so I’m looking at the fast processor and drooling.
Anyway, check out the detailed review over at Cellubration.

This is only tri-band, so no 850MHz for AT&T customers, right? Does this mean it’s unusable on AT&T at all, or just less coverage? I’ve been researching this phone and I have yet to find a definitive answer to that question. I’d love to get one to replace my Treo 650 but if voice/data coverage is going to be spotty away from major cities it’s a no-go.
Morgan, yes it’s usable on AT&T, but it’ll be very spotty as you’ve guessed. Since most of AT&T is on the 850MHz band, the fewer 1900MHz pockets will be aggrevating to use this device. T-Mobile would be better for it, but the roaming on AT&T would suffer as most of that is 850MHz.
On AT&T I’d seriously look at their “Tilt” model. While it doesn’t have 1GB storage, or the 624MHz proc, it DOES have 3G support and WM6 and a 400MHz processor. Plus AT&T customers would get a lower price than buying outright.
Hope this helps!
Rick
to correct rick, Most of Att&t 3g is at 1900MHz and 850Mhz is used in the rural areas. so if you live in the big city you will be fine!
