One of the things many mobile users have to get used to is brevity. SMS/Text Messaging only allows 160 characters, so the messages must be brief. This is becoming a common theme, even when using a standard computer (laptop/desktop).
One of the things that text messaging can teach us is to be brief when communicating. In my corporate days, I swear that every email was almost expected to communicate every detail possible. One of my bosses, bosses took great pride in nit-picking emails from every angle - technical, punctuation, spelling, etc… What a major pain. A person spent more time in corresponding with the guy 30 feet from your cube than performing actual work.
What needs to happen, and this is where mobile users are ahead of the game, is to limit the words used to communicate an idea, or answer a question. A colleague asking a question should be expected to have enough knowledge of situation to interpret your short, accurate answer.
The point is to be concise, but accurate in whatever you communicate. Start with only the bare essentials, re-read your communications, then add just the minimum personal touches to keep it from being cold and aloof. So, mobile communications can be a help to reducing the noise we all face every day.
