eWeek is reporting that Microsoft plans to have it’s competitor to Apple’s iPod on the market in time for the holiday season this year. The unique feature of this media player is its wireless capabilites that the iPod does not currently have.
The media player, which Microsoft has been pitching to record companies for some time, would be able to download media directly from the internet without a PC required. While it does not have a name yet, the company is apparently planning an additional software suite similar to the iTunes model with additional online services to back it all up.
Speaking of names, does anyone want to guess how long Microsoft’s name for this device will be? How about something like Microsoft Windows Live Mobile Media Center Player 2007 or how about Microsoft Windows Live Mobile Ultra Media Center Player 2007 (with 4 unique color appliqués!). Heh - with other products named things like Microsoft Windows Mobile Pocket PC Phone Edition - how wrong can I be?
